• The Sight and Fell, fantasy novels about wolves living in the mountains of Transylvania,

• Fire Bringer, an animal fantasy about a young buck (deer) who must face his destiny in a battle of good versus evil,
• The Telling Pool, which combines the Arthurian legends with King Richard's crusade,

David Clement-Davies(A): That's interesting Cloud, because it changes. I loved writing Fell, but I think the book that is closest to my heart is Fire Bringer, partly because it was the first and so amazing to see it in print

David Clement-Davies(A): Another favourite question, Lostpaw. Hmmmm. I loved writing about Tsinga in the Vale of Shadows, Larka's journey into the Red meadow, Kar in the cave and the Vision at Harja.

Squirrelflame(Q): How long did it take for you to write Fell?

David Clement-Davies(A): About 8 months, Squirrel. Shorter than The Sight probably because I had that world already in my head.

David Clement-Davies(A): Very interesting, Spirit. I certainly admire the Wasteland and that phrase, 'fear it, fear death by water' has stayed in my mind.

David Clement-Davies(A): Thanks Lutta. The Prophecy just seemed to come out of me, as a kind of incantation, but it changed of course as I wrote the book. Writers write forwards into their stories, and backwards too.....

David Clement-Davies(A): Many things Cloud, but mostly wonderful books I've read. I want to tell stories as exciting as the great adventures I went on with books as a boy and young adult.

David Clement-Davies(A): Hi Lutta, it's the Outriders, the stags who ride shotgun to the herd, part of the Corps, namely the fighting stags, and the Draila, Drail's inner 'police'

Spirithunter(Q): How much research did you do to write The Sight and Fire Bringer?

David Clement-Davies(A): Quite a lot Spirit. Reading about deer, and riding in Richmond Park in London where you can watch them. Reading about wolves and meeting some in a wolf trust in the UK. Although I just met some more in Colorado and was given a wolf kiss! Yeeeew.

David Clement-Davies(A): Yes Spirit, it was. And I had to make a decision whether she should live or die. If you read the paragraph just before she dies you'll realise that's an important part of the book's meaning.

David Clement-Davies(A): Names come from lots of places, Lutta. Sgorr is a cross between, to gore and to scar, Eloin was suggested by Eoin in Lord of The Rings, and Brechin is actually a place in Scotland.


Forestpelt(Q): What is your favorite food?

David Clement-Davies(A): Good food!

David Clement-Davies(A): No, that's usually the publisher, though I get to look.


Ripplestream(Q): I never read the books so I'm asking, what are they about? Forgive me, my school doesn't carry your books...

David Clement-Davies(A): Hi Ripple. Three about animals, wolves and deer, one about a mythical Babylon, and another an Arthurian fantasy set during the Third Crusade. But I hope they're about great storytelling, adventure, and the interelation between Man and Nature.


Cloud Salad(Q): ok......am i right??is the sight and fell set in the late 1400s early 1500s?

David Clement-Davies(A): Close. Firebringer is the 13th Century, the Battle of Laags is the key, and The Sight is the mid 15th.

Ripplestream(Q): What advice do you have for a kid who's trying to be an author?

David Clement-Davies(A): Read, read, read, find a genre you love, and HAVE FUN practicing. It takes time to learn the skills involved, but you may be a natural.


Spirithunter(Q): Are there any other animals you would like to write about, or that you are writing about?

David Clement-Davies(A): I think Polar Bears. I just saw a wonderful pair in New York zoo. They are SO powerful and majestic.

Squirrelflame(Q): What sort of processes do you go through when you write? I know authors do numbers of versions of their stories, and edit, but everyone's different.

David Clement-Davies(A): I do rewrite a lot, Squirrel, perhaps because of the complexity of my stories, but it can vary a lot from book to book.


Cloud Salad(Q): i just started reading fell(the only book of yours i have read) today. I think it is fab! anyways, what is with parts: future, past, present??

David Clement-Davies(A): Thanks Cloud, that's really great to hear. Past, present and future? Hmmm. Don't those things affect us all. The Sight also has them as a dominant theme.


Icefire(Q): hey David ? what exactly is a sikla?

David Clement-Davies(A): Hi Ice. The Sikla is the Omega wolf in the pack, or the weakest.


Lostpaw the Muse Fanatic(Q): How did you come up with the personalities of the wolves in The Sight and Fell?

David Clement-Davies(A): Hmmmm. Maybe bits of me and the people I know, but characters develop as you put them in certain contexts.


Cloud Salad(Q): have you ever done a tour or a author chat before?

David Clement-Davies(A): Yes, I did a tour of the States two years ago when The Telling Pool came out. 13 cities!


Forestpelt(Q): If you could be any animal, what would you be?

David Clement-Davies(A): A human first, then a Dolphin.

Forestpelt(Q): Why were the med-fed deer so unconcerned about the death of one of their fawns? (in Fire Bringer)

David Clement-Davies(A): Because they had been tamed and therefore almost unnatural.

Lutta(Q): When I read about the stag Starbuck (is that their deer god?) I thought of Starbucks coffee. Lol

David Clement-Davies(A): Lol. So did I after a while, but then Starbucks had only just arrived in the UK.

David Clement-Davies(A): Noooo, that's a good question. Because Larka is linked to Christ's, or in wolf terms Sita's sacrifice, and I'm asking if such 'stories', such love and such sacrifice can really help in the world. As a writer I'm also reminding the reader that this is only a story.

David Clement-Davies(A): Yes, Lutta!

David Clement-Davies(A): I think my hearts closest to Rannoch and I used a couple of my friends names in that book!

David Clement-Davies(A): Again the publisher chose that. Very glad you like it.


Lutta(Q): Do you ever reread your books and think of what else you could have added or changed?

David Clement-Davies(A): I have looked back and thought of changes, but its usually about style and pace.


Starry(Q): How did you come up with the names Fenris and Tor for the wolf gods?

David Clement-Davies(A): Tor is a friends' name and Fenris based on the Scandinavian wolf myth of Fenrir.

David Clement-Davies(A): I love it Ice and I find I can't stop. It's so great to be travelling in the US again.


Spirithunter(Q): Do you know Latin at all?

David Clement-Davies(A): I learnt some Latin at school. Why, Spirit, do you?


Snowlily(Q): Other than writing books, do you have any other jobs?

David Clement-Davies(A): I do a bit of travel Journalism Snow, but essentially earn my crust from my novels.

Lutta: Drail was So evil when you attacked poor brechin after the fight. was Brechin already dead and in heaven when Drail broke his antler?


Lutta(Q): How long did it take from the time you wrote Fire Bringer to have it pubslished?

David Clement-Davies(A): About 2 years Lutta. But don't let that put you off!!


Lutta(Q): Do you like getting publicity when you go out to the public?

David Clement-Davies(A): Publicity can be tricky sometimes, but I think I'm old enough to cope. I love talking to people in person though about books and stories.


Lutta(Q): Whe did you start writing?

David Clement-Davies(A): I liked writing at School and University, but I started thinking of myself as a writer when my travel journalism began to be published.


Lutta(Q): OM i am soo mad i haven't read all these books. i wish I could ask more questions!!!!

David Clement-Davies(A): Not as rare, especially among Grey wolf packs like mine.

David Clement-Davies(A): Both, but Drail is also manipulated by the thoroughly evil Sgorr, a sort of Iago character.
