Wands and Worlds price increase

Wands and Worlds has been around now for over two years, and we've grown a lot in that time. I'm so happy with how it has turned out; this is a great community with great people.

Unfortunately, all that growth has put a strain on our systems, and running a web site like this does have expenses. The server to run it on costs money, as does the chat room. Sure, there are free web hosts and free chat rooms, but those generally come with ads, and limited features. We want this to be a great site, and to do that, we need good software and systems that will do what we need it to do. For example, we needed a moderated chat room to be able to have author chats, and the moderated room costs more than the non-moderated one. And you won't see ads anywhere on Wands and Worlds, other than the box on the left about my husband's book, and I tried to be tasteful about that.

But we've reached the point where we have enough members that we need to raise our membership fee to keep going. We won't raise it much, and we're going to let existing members renew at the old rate for at least the next year.

So, effective April 1, the membership rate for all NEW members will be $8 per year. Existing members who joined at the $5 rate will be able to renew their membership at the rate of $5 per year for at least the next year. At the end of the year, we'll reevaluate our costs and decide whether we can continue to allow those members to renew at $5 per year.

We didn't make this decision lightly. We value this community and we want to do what's best for the community. In this case, we feel that having enough money to keep things running smoothly is what's best. And we still think that $8 for a whole year is a good bargain. And trust me - we aren't getting rich from this!

Jinxy: It would be good for you to save $8. Good practice. It's a scarey thing to spend every penny you get ahold of. However, if you seriously, cross-your-heart-and-hope-to-die, stick-a-needle-in-your-eye, couldn't pay it, I'd do it for you. I'd miss your gun-totin', little bayou-country heart on this site. Besides, maybe we help keep you out of trouble during the day (& night).

Losty and Jinxy - I just want to make sure you understand that you don't have to pay the extra $3 - at least not THIS year. The $8 rate is for NEW members.

Current members who joined at the $5 rate can renew for $5 for at least the next year. So everyone who is currently a member will be able to renew at least one more time at $5. I hope I made that clear.
