Hi everyone,

Some of you have been giving out personal information in the chat room, and I just want to remind you to please be careful about revealing personal information on the site or in the chat room. I try very hard to keep Wands and Worlds safe, but there are no guarantees. There are bad people in the world, and one has to be careful on the Internet because there's no way to know that someone really is who they say they are.

Here are some things that you should probably not give out:

Your full name (first name is ok)
Your address or telephone number (obviously)
Your email address
Your school name or the name of any club or team you belong to

First name, age, and state are probably ok. City may be ok if you live in a big city, but probably not if you are in a small town. Basically, you don't want to give out anything that can be used to identify you. If there is any question, check with your parents.

I know that sometimes you meet someone online that you like and want to be friends with. In a situation like that, it's best to proceed carefully until you know that the other person is who they say they are. Check with your parents before giving out your email address or phone number, and ask how they want you to proceed. If you do want to meet someone in real life, make sure that the meeting is in a public place and that you aren't alone.

I'm sorry to sound so paranoid, and I don't want you all to be scared of each other. I think we have a great community here. But I just ask that you exercise reasonable caution.

Some of you have noticed the user names with the random letters in the "Who's online" box. I think that those are spammers trying to get access to post spam. They shouldn't be able to, but if you do see anything on Wands and Worlds that you think shouldn't be here, please email me right away at sruth@wandsandworlds.com

That's ok Blaze, random numbers are ok. I meant that sometimes you will see someone in the "Who's online" box with a username that looks like XHflaujBKUGHda. That's what I was talking about when I said I think they are spammers.

I don't think you need to be suspicious of users with real sounding names in the Users box. As Runningflame said, we get a lot of people who join but never upgrade to premium, so they can't post. I'm going to be deleting all the old ones soon, to free up some names. I just haven't had time.

That have normal sounding names. EVEN if they have not posted, so what? It doesn't really matter. However, if you see someone with random numbers/letters as their username- and, especially if they have random numbers/letters set for their REAL name- report them to me or sheila and we will block them.
