A Note to All Warriors, from the Family of Emmy Cherry
I received the following note from the family of Emmy Cherry, also known as Brightspirit. If you aren't familiar with Emmy Cherry's story, Click here for more information. The message from Emmy's family is below:
When Emmy and her parents died in February, we felt so isolated and alone in the world. But because each of you took time to write beautiful tributes to Emmy, Dana and Jimmy...we began to feel that we were part of a large large family....Warriors.
We can never find the words to thank you all. So many of you wrote to express concern, and compassion and courage to us. The words, the pictures you drew, the thoughts...and the perfect beautiful names of Brightspirit, Shiningheart and Braveheart...are gifts that cannot be purchased with money, only given with the heart.
We cannot find words to tell you how honored we feel to be part of this Warrior Family. And there is no way we can ever express our utter amazement, our deep gratitude and the incredible honor of Erin Hunter’s gift of allowing Emmy, Dana and Jimmy to live forever in Emmy’s favorite books.
You may have heard that Erin Hunter is going to end her North American Tour this fall with a visit to our community. It’s TRUE! Vicky is coming here September 20th! We are celebrating her coming with a festival we are calling “WARRIORS DAY” in honor of the Erins, and in memory of our Warrior, Emmy.
You are ALL officially invited to attend Warriors Day! We would LOVE to meet every one of you! Please consider this your “engraved invitation”! !
Sadly, we know that many of you live too far away from Arkansas to make the trip. But, Erin Hunter (and all of US!) want to invite you to participate in TWO WAYS that we believe you all might be able to be with us.
First, we are going to honor all Warrior Heroes. We would like to hear from you, with nominations of Warriors in your community (your physical or ONLINE Community!) who have touched others with some act of kindness, courage or compassion. We plan to post these nominations from all over the world on a WARRIORS WALL, at Warriors Day. Please send nominations of Warrior Heroes to Emmy’s Favorite Book Store, Vintage Books (Address below). And tell us why this person is a Warrior Hero. All nominations will be posted on the wall, as well as a repeating slide show all day long!
Second, We are having a Pet Show on Warrior’s Day. We are delighted that Erin Hunter (Vicky) will judge the contest herself! We have three categories. Cats, Dogs and OTHER. We have decided to have a PHOTO category, for those of you who cannot come in person. We want you to be here with us, and this way, you can! Erin Hunter will judge the winner in each Category. Winners in each Category will receive (by mail) a Warrior’s Day Pet Show Certificate, and a Warrior’s Day Tee-shirt! 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive certificates of honorable mention.
To enter: Mail (we cannot accept emailed pictures, we need a picture printed and mailed to us) a 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 standard photograph (sorry, we cannot return them, so you need to send a copy of your picture!) to Emmy’s favorite bookstore:

I wanted to put a comment here, but I can’t really add to what Lynn and Emmy’s grandmothers have already said: Your response to the news of Emmy Cherry’s tragic and untimely death has shown what an incredible Clan of fans the Erins have. I’m hugely proud of your compassion, your maturity, your generosity, and your sensitivity. You guys ROCK! It was the strength of your response which prompted us to go on and make plans for Warriors Day on September 20th, when the whole of Emmy’s community will come together to celebrate her life and raise funds for further tornado relief with competitions and games. This memorial isn’t just a testimony to Emmy’s precious life; it’s testimony to the power of love, to what happens when people unite for the sake of doing good in the world. You are all part of that, and Kate, Cherith, Tui and I can never thank you enough. Please take time to visit the website, www.brightspiritrelieffund.com, and perhaps take part in one of the competitions or even donate a book for the literacy giveaway. You’ll also find lots of ideas for helping out your own Clans, from your immediate family to the street where you live, and hopefully have fun at the same time. Yay! I might be able to come! I live in TN (only about...6 hours away) and I would be so happy to attend Warriors Day and honor Emmy's spirit and the spirits of her parents. My Grandparents don't live far from Russellville, so if I can't attend they might come down and take my place. I will also be sure to mail a picture of one of my cats, that is if I can't come.
