This is the start of a story I have been formulating for more than a year and a half now. This is my first time writing it for an audience so some tips, constructive criticism, compliments, etc. are welcome. Please no flames. Sorry for using your name Swifty! I developed this character long before I joined this site! Hope you all enjoy it!
Prologue
A silent wind blew through a grassy clearing in a mountain valley. A small pool sat in the center of the clearing, shining purple in the glow of early twilight. Around the pool the figures of three cats were silhouetted against the fading light. A slender tortoiseshell with deep green eyes, was staring intently into the pool. Her pelt had a silvery sparkle to it, much like a star. Her two companions sat behind her waiting. Then not wanting to wait any longer, one of the cats, a pale gray tom, broke the silence.
"What is it Fernstar? What do you see?"
"Today a kit has been apprenticed." stated the tortoiseshell.
"How is that significant Fernstar? Kits are apprenticed all the time." asked the pale gray tom.
"Yes, Graystar, but she has the blood of each Clan flowing through her veins." mewed Fernstar still staring at the pool.
"That's worse than Half-Clan! She'll never be a loyal cat if she finds out! She is a disgrace to all the Clans!" remarked a tabby warrior, the tip of his tail twitching with disgust.
"It is not her fault for being born. And her parents are not at fault either. They are both of MountainClan and have no knowledge of their Half-Clan status." hissed Fernstar.
"Then we must punish those who ARE responsible and ensure she never finds out!" replied Sharpfang.
"But we must tell her." replied Fernstar cooly.
"And let me remind you Sharpfang that LakeClan is not so pure anymore with Half-Clan cats being trained as warriors right now." growled Graystar to the tabby, who snorted in reply.
"Who shall we send to her?" Graystar asked Fernstar.
"Two of those responsibe for her Multi-Clan heritage. Sharpfang, bring me Skywind and Sootpelt." meowed Fernstar. Sharpfang bounded away, grumbling to himself about apprentice work, and returned not long later with two cats. One of the cats was a strong dark gray tom, the other was a small slender tom who was mostly white with large circular black spots.
"You sent for us Fernstar?" mewed the gray tom to the she-cat.
"Yes, I have a job for you two. You are to visit young Hazelpaw of MountainClan and reveal to her her heritage." Fernstar replied still staring transfixed at the pool.
"Why us? Why do you want her to know?" asked the black and white tom.
"You two are her ancestors from different Clans. You can teach her the ways of your birth Clans." answered Fernstar. The two toms sat in silence for a moment waiting for the tortoiseshell to say more. When she said nothing they spoke up again.
"Okay, you have answered why we are the ones to tell her, but why does she have to know?" inquired the black and white tom again.
"Yes, what is the purpose of this task?" asked the gray tom. Fernstar was silent for several more heartbeats, then she spoke.
"All you need to know is this, when the blood of all three Clans unite, the night will fall, and the sun will rise."
Chapter 1
Hazelpaw bounded through he forest, the warn greenleaf sun soaking into her pelt. Excitement burned in her belly, this was her first day as an apprentice! She was seeing all of MountainClan territory for the first time! She could barely contain her enthusiasm. The new sights and sounds and smells were overwealming.
"Slow down! I thought I told you to stay within my sight!" yowled her mentor Swiftstep, both annoyed and amused.
Hazelpaw skidded to a halt in the dead leaves on the forest floor.
"Sorry Swiftstep. It's just so exciting! I can't believe how big our territory is!" meowed Hazelpaw, her black and white fur bristling with antisipation of what she was yet to see and learn.
