My first post and a fanfic!!
HIIIII!!!! I'm Fernstar! I'm a calico she-cat with green eyes. I've created my own Clans (FeatherClan and IceClan) there are more, but they are under my friends control. (StoneClan and NightClan) I've also written fanfics about these Clans. I'm going to post part of one here.
The Rise of FeatherClan
The full moon shone as a shadow slipped though the grass, a tortoiseshell she-cat stood, gazing at the shimmering lake before her. Around it were streams, trees, and hills. On one part of the lake, there was a small island with small moving shapes on it. Fern stared at the island closely. Cats! Perhaps the answer to the problem lies here. She thought hopefully. Fern bounded towards the lake, passing a farm with large, tall creatures surrounded by a strange Twoleg object. She paused at a tree trunk that served as a bridge, which led to the island... Fern stepped carefully on the trunk with strange scents closing in around her. She unsheathed her claws for a firmer grip and continued across. The heartbeat she set paw on the island, dozens of cats turned to look at her. One of them, a cream colored tom with a short tail, yowled “Intruder!” and flung himself at Fern. They tussled for a minute, the attacker hissing at her. Fern fought back, dodging blow after blow. Eventually, a dark tabby tom padded up to them at hissed at her opponent. “Berrynose! Stop fighting at once!”
The tom called Berrynose backed away, leaving Fern to stand alone. “Who are you and what do you want with the Clans?” he growled.
“I m-must speak with your leader!” Fern stammered, not sure whether she should introduce herself or not. She sat down, kneading the ground with her paws anxiously.
“Which leader?” called a blue-gray she-cat who was standing on the roots of a tree with four cats perched on its branches.
“Which leader?” Fern echoed, she had not been expecting this response... She had assumed that one leader ruled all of these cats. “I supposed the leader who will help me.” Fern responded.
All of the cats turned to look expectantly at a dark ginger tom that sat in the tree. “Firestar?” the dark tabby asked. “What should we do?”
The other cat sighed. “I don’t know Brambleclaw, we’ll take this cat back to camp and see what she wants.”
“Thank you!” Fern gasped.. “This truly means a lot to me.” She wasn’t sure what Firestar would do to her but she felt it was worth taking a risk.....
When it was time to leave, a kind tabby she-cat called Leafpool guided Fern on the return route. She explained about the four Clans: ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan and ShadowClan. As well as the warrior code.
Is this a self-insert? Is
Is this a self-insert? Is Fern going to become your character Fernstar? That's a bad thing; it's also known as "wish-fulfillment" and is usually a story about what you wish you'd be able to do if you were a cat. These usually involve prophecies, cats not acting like they normally would for the sake of the self-insert, and things going perfectly for them. If you're going to write a fanfic, I'd suggest making it a not-self insert.

Lakey: Just because it's a self-insert, doesn't mean the character is automatically going to turn into a wish-fulfilling Mary-Sue. Though it's true, that's something you'll have to be careful not to do, Fern. Just a tip.

Lakey, can you please not automatically accuse her of self-inserts? Self-inserts aren't THAT bad, as long as it's not, like you said, a mary-sue.

who says all self inserts are doomed to fail anyway? some people are talented enough to pull it off.

I write Reality and Fiction. Every single character in it is an insert of a W&W member, including Lilac, who's a self insert. I don't see people going onto my forum and saying that 'it's wish fullfillment and that's really bad.' Let her do what she wants with her story.
I personally like it, and I can't wait until she posts the next chapter. ^_^

Lakey, that was kind of uncalled for. It might not be wish fulfillment, she might have written her story then taken the name from that character, so she just named herself off that character. That's what I did: Soundstorm was the deputy of a clan of mountain cats, then I borrowed the name when I joined W&W, so the character came first. Might have been what she did.
